Greek Bronze Carthage Horse Head 300-264 BC (039)

$400.00 USD

Description

Beautiful ancient bronze coin with an image of a long necked, high headed horse.  There is a palm, common in the coinage of Carthage, below the horse's head.   The obverse side of the coin is a very faint image of the goddess Tanit.  The coin is a very dark bronze.  In hand, the surface is smoother and the detail of the horse's head and neck are very elegant with the ears and mane swept back.

Greek bronze coin from Zeugitania, Carthage.  (North Africa, Tunisia)

Dated: 300-264 BC

Size approx 20mm in a hand fabricated sterling silver mount.

One of a kind with certificate.
