1863 George Washington Civil War Union Token



1863 Civil War token featuring equestrian statue of George Washington with the saying "FIRST IN WAR, FIRST IN PEACE". 

The reverse states "UNION FOR EVER" with a palm branch to the left (symbol of peace) and oak branch to the right (symbol of war).

The copper coin is in an 18kt gold mount.  Approx. 3/4"

Civil War tokens are token coins that were privately minted and distributed in the United States between 1861 and 1864. They were used mainly in the Northeast and Midwest.
