Description

Beautiful ancient bronze coin from Syracuse with an image of a Hippocamp.  The reverse side of the coin is a helmuted Aethena.

A Hippocamp was an ancient sea creature in Greek mythology with the head of a horse, the tail of a fish and with wings.   Hippos - horse.  Kampos - sea monster.  The hippocampi can never die of old age.

Dated: 390 BC

Bronze coin is approx 17mm in a sterling silver mount.
